Welcome 8W!
Just to get your feet wet, I would like you to respond to the following question:
From your reading today, comment how immigrants have contributed to Canada as a nation. Be specific and include examples in your comment.

Immigrants have contributed to Canada as nation in different ways. They are the reason we have so many different traditions and celebrations, and so many different cultures in our society.
They helped us with our farming
Example : Europe was becoming more industrialized and people were leaving farms for factories. They were producing less food and needed to by it from Canada ( and the States ). The immigrants coming over helped with the farming and let us supply more.
Immigrants made our population grow.
Example: The Doukhobors came over and lived in villages and shared their land.
They helped attribute to the economy therefore improving it.
Example : The americans came in large numbers and since they could sell their land at a good price they could still have money to buy horses and machinery.
Immigrants have contributed to Canada by making Canadians more accepting of others. In the 1800′s most Canadians looked down on immigrants from Asia or Africa and thought that they didn’t qualify as people. Now skin colour or your heritage aren’t factors in day to day life and many new immigrants are allowed into Canada. This has lead many people to be more accepting of others.
Immigrants have contributed to Canada in so many different ways. These reasons include making our economy stronger, raising our population level, and teaching other citizens around them new cultures and beliefs they may not be familiar with.
Before, Canada wasn’t a very popular country, and their wasn’t even enough citizens to farm the land and keep their economy up. Canada was in desperate need of immigrants so they advertised the positives of Canada in other countries. When the new immigrants came, our economy soared. New businesses were made, farms were being kept well, and Canada was full of new settlements. In the early days, it was the immigrants who made Canada prosper.
Also, like I said before, there was not enough citizens to fill up Canada. When immigrants came over, our population also rose. New families were created, and the help from these people helped Canada to grow even more.
Finally, immigrants have helped to teach the people around them new beliefs and cultures. Without new immigration laws, Canada probably wouldn’t have more than one or two cultures. Since we are a multi-cultural country, though, we have learned to accept people for who they are, and not judge them just by their race or beliefs. Without immigrants, I think Canadians would be very racist and biased. No one would be open to new ideas like we are now, and I think the citizens would be very rude.
In conclusion, immigrants have contributed to Canada in more ways than we can imagine. And to those who are against new immigrants . . . I think you should think about how much of a help they have actually been to our country. We couldn’t have been this successful without them!
I think that we need them. In a globalised world, talking about immigrants makes no longer sense, we are a whole, and we should behave as a whole.
Hi There Mr. Bircher,
It has been a while since we connected. I have begun blogging again and so thought I would send a note. Check it out here.
